hey Dave,

wow, I got my Captain coconut from Mike on monday, only had a few chances to play it - this thing is fat. Not as experienced a pedal head as some of your customers (the vibe replaces my Dunlop univibe) but getting into the higher end stuff began with a fuzz factory last year along with Mike's Clone clone and a Teese wah.

This thing really slays me, I knew I had to have it after reading about it on Mike's page and your page also, wow. I had been contemplating upgrading my univbe as well as getting the octavia effect but wasn't really thinking about another fuzz but wow this not only has it all but it really is top shelf so clean and strong and musical and quiet too! I always hated hum loved strats, hence EMG's and now a Commanche this thing is dead quiet but that is far from it's real beauty...I've been playing it into my Lovetone ? with a delay in the ? loop and thats all and I am really floored!!

Great work
Rich

HI Rich,
Thanks for witing. I live for emails like yours! Welcome to the Coconut family. I hope you get a lot of use out of it, and create a lot of great music.
Here's some advice-
Get new strings
Get Jimi Hendrix Live at the Filmore East and drive around listenning to it
Grab some patchcords and try patching the CC effects in different orders
Plug that Teese before the Fuzz and listen to it sing (or cry)!

Questions or comments - send them my way!

Best regards,

Dave

Sugject: Re: Ahem... Coconut anyone

Its an awesome unit! I LOVE mine. Every effect in it is first rate! You cant go wrong with this unit. I just use it octave>vibe>fuzz The fuzz face is absolutely killer as is the Provibe, upper octave fuzz is not really my bag but with some tweaking it sounds really good as well. I like it with the drive rolled all the way off.

Good luck

Subject: Re: Best current Fuzz Face(s)?

If you get the chance, Go listen to the sound (mp3's) of the Fuzzfoot by Foxrox at: http://www.foxroxelectronics.com/ and as well check out the sounds of the octave (octavia "tychobrah"type) the captn coconut has both of these in the same pedal and has a 'vibe (actually called the "provibe") in it as well.. analogman.com is selling them..
If you like the fulltone 69 and the fulltone 70 pedal this is the inbetweener (w/even more gain available)and sounds great with mesa(or my tremoverb at least). This particular fuzz lets you hear the guitar and the effect lays on it, instead of you playing the fuzz via your guitar. Which is also cool in a non hendrix way, like my zvex fuzz factory. Though all and all..the foxrox fuzzfoot is my favorite hands down....

An email from Jeff, a guy who was sent a Captain Coconut for evaluation

Dave,
I got the new CC on Friday and have had a few days now to put it through it's paces. My first impression is that the Fuzzfoot is phenomenal and regardless of whether I choose to purchase the unit I will want a Fuzzfoot. Do you sell them seperately or do you have any prototypes around? I don't care about cosmetics, I just want THAT sound. As for the rest of the CC, I really like the Octave section . With the Fuzzfoot engaged the octave takes on some very cool ring modulator sounds and with the tone rolled off the Strat it's absolutely impossible to put down. The idepth of effect on the Vibe section is impressive too. You've got the Univibe sound nailed. The unit sounds great in all modes and I wouldn't hesitate to use it live or in the studio

Hi Dave-

Just wanted to drop you a line & let you know how much I dig this thing. Great to have a Univibe that didn't cost me my first-born child & that I'd feel comfortable traveling with. Hoping to beat this thing to death on the new record (we're currently in preproduction).

Hey Dave, just wanted to let you know that I got your captain in the mail and used it on a gig last night. I totally dig it-three great sounds that all work together.I wasn't the main singer on this gig like usual,so I could hang back and tweak and scheme a little with it.I have a great guitar and amp combo-tele into marshall blues breaker style homeade jobber,so I mostly just use the straight warm tone, but I really love having somewhere else to go now and then and your gadget is perfect. The fuzz and octave settings were a no brainer, instant gratification, the vibe side is also killer, but it has so many sounds i think I'll be tinkering with it for a while, not so set and forget.I first was getting sort of the star spangled banner thing, and then faster, and during the third set i got some killer organy leslie type(but not
leslie at all really)sounds. It is the best made box I own and I am glad I put myself in debt over it.I was alittle afraid as i first started tinkering with it that it would just cause non stop hendrix copping, but i haven't even touched the range of sounds in this thing.I love that each effect has it's own volume control.I had the volumes raised in a "star of the mix"type approach so that when i kicked one of those flavors on it was just really tastey.I allways wanted an old fuzzface, the reissues are not usable to me.Your grit knob, yes yes.The octave, better tracking easy to use,my friend has a new mayer, and it is a recipe for having your tone just kind of get away from you.

Thanks,Kenny

I think the provide sounds great! I A/B it with the sweetsound and the voodoo vibe. I think its a winner equal/better in everyway sonically to the others. I liked what I perceived as increased depth and range of the chorus. The unit has a really deep lush chorus that I really like. I especially liked it when set to really to a slow and deep chorus. The fuzz face is killer just great sounding as well. I have some gigs in the next few weeks and plan to take it out use it.

Cheers

An emial from Kevin, who ordered a Provibe

hey dave,

you get some awesome sounds out of the Coconut! I wish I had the money to spend. Everytime I hear the fuzzfoot, I think how much better it sounds than any other fuzz I've tried/heard. Even when I first heard the Provibe at the Guitar show in NY, it caught my attention from across the room. My girlfriend was yelling at me because I was trying to figure out how to get $400 to spend. So I settled for just the Provibe. One of these days I'll pick one up!

An email from Martin

Thanks for the Captain Coconut - It is a really great pedal. The Provibe is warmer and more flexible than my Fulltone Dejavibe or any boss chorus pedals I've tried. The Octave effect is just like Hendrix and the Fuzz is the most musical fuzz I've heard. I even took a day off from work just to wail with this pedal ( - call it 'coconut fever'). I will try to write a review as soon as I get a chance.

Meantime if you know anybody who wants a Dejavibe or a a Black Cat Super Fuzz let me know......
